THE ATO Z CHALLENGE 2015: W IS FOR WHAT'S NEW PUSSY CAT?

WELCOME TO THE 23RD LETTER OF
THE A TOZ CHALLENGE 2015:
ONCE AGAIN I WILL CHOOSE A SONG TITLE
THEN WRITE MY OWN POEM:

W
is for
WHAT'S NEW PUSSYCAT?
RECORDED BY
TOM JONES:

We inherited Tabitha
From our eldest son Rob.
He had to part with her
Because of unsocialable hours with his job.
She fitted in with the family
which consisted of hubby, me, dog, daughter and son.
Just to look at her lovely face
Is why our hearts she won.

The dog took her under her wing,
To ensure no mischief occurred.
But Tabitha loved to see bare feet
Which up to then I'd never heard.

As the years flew by,
She seemed to go missing each morn.
I would get upset,
Wondering where she had gone.

I found out quite by accicdent.
Feeling such a fool.
It appears she'd creep into morning assembly
In the nearby school.

I wondered if she needed to pray,
For all the fuss she caused.
Especially when I took her to the vets
For him to inspect her claws.

More years passed,
The dog, we had to part.
She was sixteen yrs old.
How it broke our hearts.

Then Tabitha was diagnosed
With Diabetes  when she was ten.
I'd give her two shots daily
much to her disgust of insulin.

We did take her to our caravan,
To ensure she got her shots.
She loved it there,
Especially when the weather was hot.

She was a great comfort to me
Whe hubby passed away.
She always followed me around
And by my side she'd stay.

Tabitha would Me-ow at hubby's
Empty chair.
Then come and sit on my lap,
And for many a hour stay there.

She would always put her paws
Around my neck.
And head under my chin.
It was uncomfortable but hey? what the heck.

Then I heard the words "I think it's the kindest thing"
As I stroked her with eyes full of tears.
I whispered in her ear.
Thank you for fourteen happy years.

  1. She was your personal angel during those years. And here you thought you were taking care of her - I think she was taking care of you.

  3. Wow! So beautiful - the cat, the poem, and the sentiment. Once again a home run, you knocked it out of the park! I had to part with my beloved Theophilus, a 7 year old Tabby I raised from 6 weeks old when we moved three years ago. He has a good home and is in good hands.

  4. Such a beautiful companion. The relationship counted in human years would make her around the 80s, I guess! We had a Scottish Fold once. When it passed on everyone in the house cried! Tom Jones rendition was classic! Great lines Yvonne!

  5. Loving the kitties and they are there when you need them the most, great share. At a moment of my life and certain level of sad times my cat sat with me and didn't ask for anything except me and my love to him. He was one of the reasons I made it past those darker times.

  6. I agree Jeremy cats have a sixth sense and can calm anyone down who have problems,
wish I was allowed to have a cate where I reside.
    Thanks for a wonderful comment.

  10. Having cats is a blessing. They come into our lives to give us a sense of what it's like to be clairvoyant and royalty.

  17. I loved this song by Tom Jones :)
Your poem is so touching Yvonne. I know the feelings a cat can evoke. They sense things more than I've ever seen in a dog. When I lost my cat Simba I felt I'd lost a dear, old friend. She and I had gone through so much together. When you said Tabitha would put her arms around your neck, it brought tears to my eyes. So very sweet!
