THE A TO Z CHALLENGE 2015: U IS FOR UNFORGETABLE:

WELCOME TO THE 21ST LETTER OF
THE A TO Z CHALLENGE 2015:
AS USUAL I WILL CHOOSE A SONG TITLE
THEN WRITE MY OWN POEM:

U
is for
UNFORGETTABLE
RECORDED BY
NAT KING COLE:
My unforgettable evening
That I do recall.
Concerns a tambourine,
And the song "Home To Donegal".

A friend and myself went to a show
At Enniskillen N. Ireland.
Mick Flavin was the singer,
Along with his wonderful band.

Before the show commenced,
Mick shouted from the wings.
"Yvonne have you your tambourine?"
Then proceeded to sing.

About six songs into his act,
To the audience he addressed.
I have two ladies here in the front row
With tambourines are totally obsessed.

Without further ado,
He ushered us on stage.
One of us stood each side of him,
Me! feeling like a monkey in a cage.

Then the music started,
My dreams of stardom gone I recall.
As the intro began to play
"Home To Donegal".

It's a very slow song,
Not one suitable for a tambourine.
The band was in fits of laughter,
At this unforgettable scene.

I wished there were a trap door
To whisk me from the stage.
Or better still I'd rather be
That monkey in a cage.

To think The Lord Mayor of Enniskillen
Attended the show that night.
I wonder what he thought,
Did we give him a fright or delight?

We did lighten up the audience though,
Me, looking dignified and serene.
No fame or fourtune for us came our way
That night by playing our tambourines.

  15. I think I would have said, hey Mick, my tamborine doesn't want to play with you. How about a fast one. Might wake it up. lol! Been nice if they let you in on the 'fun' beforehand.
