THE A TO Z CHALLENGE2015: P IS FOR PASSING STRANGERS:

 WELCOME TO THE 16TH LETTER
OF THE A TO Z CHALLENGE 2015:

AGAIN I WILL CHOOSE A SONG TITLE
AND ATTEMPT TO WRITE MY OWN POEM:

P
is for
PASSING STRANGERS:
RECORDED BY
BILLY ECKSTINE AND
SARAH VAUGHAN:
Have you ever been out walking
Seeing a stranger approaching you?
Do you wonder what is going on in his/her life,
As that person comes into view.

Is that person married?
Perhaps a mum or dad.
Are they wishing for the moon,
For things they never had?

Or equally they could be single,
Out in the world all alone.
Staying at home night after night,
Waiting for the ring of the phone.

The call that never comes,
As that person retires to bed.
Thinking of days gone by
And all the things that have been said.

One never realises who we pass
As we're out day after day.
Passing strangers I call them
As they go along their way.

I suppose we;re all too busy
In our own world we seem to stay.
Take a good look at the next passing stranger,
As he/she comes your way.

  3. Every person we pass is a lifetime of experiences and we don't know where they are at right at that moment.

  4. Sweet poem! I should wonder more. It's a small world and you're right, we should share our life experience more than we do.

  9. I wonder about people's lives all the time. Especially when I travel down a highway on a road trip. I wonder if the people in the cars around me are happy or sad, etc.

  11. This was a great idea and poem. I do think about "strangers" when I pass by them. I often wonder about their lives, but more importantly I wonder about their soul. Life is so short and then it is gone. I also agree with Donna McDine - I try to voice a greeting to all I pass by out of respect for them and I hope it does make a tiny bit of difference in their day.

  12. I totally agree with you Gregg, It does make someone's day which I can relate to as some days I don't speak to a soul, Life out there can be lonely.
    Thanks for the comment.

  14. Beautifully expressed, Yvonne. I often watch people and wonder about their stories. I even make some stories up as I see them cross the street or sip their coffee. All travelers on the same road, but with such different experiences.

  16. That's a lovely poem. I quite often wonder about what's going on in the lives of the people I see around me. I love to 'people watch' when I'm somewhere like a train station or airport and imagine stories about the people I see. :-)

  17. That poem is so me. I have actually sat in restaurants, meetings, airports and watched people.....as I make up stories of their lives. Loved this! I had never heard the song....but I will listen to it today. BTW...since you love Irish singers...try and find a group called Barley Corn. I heard them in Ireland....and the US. They do a song called Immigrant Eyes that will make you cry.

  18. I think this often. Pretty much every day. What if I knew that person for twenty years. How would my life or theirs be different?

  21. I wonder about other people all the time. They could be good friends with common interests if we got to know them, but so often we don't have time or are afraid of interfering with theirs. Great poetic musings.

  22. I must admit sometimes whilst out I don't speak to a soul or vice versa, But I do wonder what sort of lives they lead.
