A SLEEPNESS NIGHT:

(Last night spent a sleepness night
then remembered this poem I wrote 5 yrs ago)

A SLEEPNESS NIGHT:
Sleep did not come easily
In fact it evaded me completely.
I tossed and turned  so many times
I could hear every creek on the stairs distinctly.

Outside there was the slight breeze on the trees.
Their shadows dancing on the blinds.
So many shapes and sizes
I can still see them in my mind.

I heard the me-ow of a cat
How weird it sounds at night.
I got out of bed to get a drink
Forgetting to put on the light.

I tripped over a pair of shoes,
That I should have put away.
I sprained my ankle, it sweeled up
So back on the bed I lay.

I saw the hands of the clock slowly move,
So I turned it to face the wall.
I should have turned the alarm off
As I was due for an early morming call.

I hobbled to the bathroom,
To get some pain relief.
This sprained ankle of mine
Was certainly giving me grief.

Wearily I climbed into bed.
Feeling drowsy and more calm.
Just as I was falling asleep
Off went the "B****y" alarm.

My swelling ankle had subsided
But still painful I confess.
I hope to get some sleep tonight
Otherwise I shall look a complete mess.

What do you do if you can't sleep?
Perhaps you can give me some tips.
I gave up counting sheep
For most of them were being dipped.

  1. I hope you didn't fall over anything on this sleepless night. It's horrible watching the clock tick round, the harder you try to fall asleep the more it seems to evade. Have you tried herbal tea? I find camomile the best.

    1. Hi Suzanne, thanks for your comment, I am not any sort of tea drinker so stick to my hot chocolate at night. ......still don't sleep too well.
I once worked in a tea factory in Bristol , remember PG TIPS? well I worked there. I hated the smell of tea but it was a job.
      Have a good week-end.

  2. With my luck, I would've tripped over the cat.

I have an herbal supplement I take that helps me sleep.

  3. Sleepless nights certainly are frustrating. I haven't found a solution to mine yet. Sometimes I read. Doesn't make me sleepy. Other times, I just lie in bed and glance at the clock every few minutes.
Have a lovely weekend. Hope you sleep well. :)

  4. I seldom have trouble sleeping at night. When I do, I find a comfortable position and relax my muscles starting at my toes. Then I think of what I would do if I won the lottery and all the people I would help out. Those pleasant thoughts usually carry me right to sleep.

    1. I have relaxation cds but at times they don't help., it is similar to start relaxing from toes to different muscles throughout your body.
      Have a lovely week-end.

  5. If I can't sleep, I read. If that doesn't work, I write. At least then I don't feel like I'm wasting time.

  6. You dip your sheep?
If I can't sleep, it's usually because I'm too warm. Tossing the covers or turning the air conditioning up usually does the trick.

    1. Yes Alex we over here Dip sheep, how or why I don't know as I'm not into farming.
I always have a window open as I don't like a hot bedroom.
Thanks for your comment, enjoy the week-end.
