FIRST MEMORY:

FIRST MEMORY:
(on this Father's Day:)
The first memory I recall,
Was a man giving me a lovely doll.
A ragged doll with a china head,
He gave to me while I lay in bed/

I never saw that man again,
Amystery he has always remained.
Many hours of play with that doll I had,
Could that person have been my dad?

You see he died when I was three,
He wasn't around for me to sit on his knee.
To tell me stories of when he was a boy,
Was it him long ago who gave me that toy?

Every so often throughout my life,
As I grew from a child and became a wife.
I think of that memory of long ago,
But the answer to that I will never know.

Now I am a widow and a grandmother of four,
When they are sitting around me on the floor.
I can tell them a story , one I recall.
The day I was given a lovely doll.

  3. Beautiful and touching, Yvonne. I wish you'd been able to sit on your father's knee. We can't change the past but the future lies ahead. A lovely one with family again.

  6. There is always the lingering thought of one's Dad. How true Yvonne. One straightaway realize they had responsibilities for us right from day one. That itself will make one think of them.
