THE DAY THE SUN WILL SHINE:

THE DAY THE SUN WILL SHINE:
(another poem I did for the orphanage
in Siret Romania)

Overhead a black cloud looms
Above an orphanage in Siret.
The undignified way the children lives are lived
Will they ever forget?

Quite a few are gone on to pastures new,
The Challange Appeal made it so.
The difference it has made to them,
In their eyes you see a glow.

Alas there are many hundreds more,
Who look to us for love.
When Oh when is the sun going to shine
From the sky above?

(Danny Boy with his hit charity appeal disc)
When the last hand is led to fredom,
When the demolition machines are set.
When there are tears of joy in everyone's eyes,
That's the day the sun will shine
A DAY WE'LL NEVER FORGET.

    1. Thanks Chrys, I did a set of 6 poetry postcards some years back to help the charity.
I got to know about it by going to Daniel O Donnell concerts.

  6. Romania is such a poor country. Most people live in poverty, and I imagine for orphans, it's even worse.

    1. When I first met Daniel he was full of compassion and concern for me, when a few years later he mentioned about SIRET, I came up with the ideal of doing poetry postcards, a picture of Daniel and a poem. It was publicised in a weekly newspaper and over a period of two years raised over £6,000 sterling,That's the story of my envolvement.
Thanks for the comment Alex, much appreciated.

  8. This is very touching, the first I've heard of your experience (and Daniel's) with the orphanage. You'll probably never know how much your support helped these children. Even if only one life was changed for the better, it would have been worth it.

  9. Although it was for a serious cause it was fun to do and selling my poetry postcards were sold at concerts and through a weekly newspaper.
