CHRISTMAS PAST:

*I wrote this many years ago:
The last two verses don't now apply.*
CHRISTMAS PAST:
dedicated to my family.....with dad in mind.
As Christmastime approaches,
I think of Christmas past.
The lovely memories that I have,
Will forever with me last.

How when the children were small,
You were like a big kid yourseelf.
Although we only had a small house,
And indeed no means of wealth.

How you would decorate the tree,
And marvel at the sight.
Though nine times out of ten
Who couldn't fix the lights?

Then the decorations of the house,
Balloons were your big thing.
Alas the cat and dog disagreed with you
Whey they burst, off they flew like a bird on the wing.

On Christmas  Eve you would send
The kids a packing
Off to bed so you could continue
The rest of present wrapping.

On Christmas morning who awoke first?
Yes! you guessed it folk in one.
Then slowly the children descended
The stairs sleepily one by one.

You loved to play with their gifts,
Until it was time for lunch.
Each year it was the same,
Who to wash up? That was the crunch.

On Christmas night three tired
Children off to bed  they did go.
I wonder if they too think
Of Christmas's long ago?

*Now the tables have turned,
As I spend the Yuletide
With each one in turn.
But the Christmas's long ago....how I do so yearn.

But with grandchildren on the scene.
It's little short of a miracle.
Our Christmas have turned full swing.
And come round in full circle*

  1. A family Christmas will come to past in no time as one by one they leave the nest. If every opportunity is taken for a family Christmas when they are still young then it will measure out to be most ideal! Merry Christmas to you Yvonne!
