LOST AND FOUND VALENTINE'S EDITION:

THE NIGHT I FOUND MY VALENTINE:
Twas a night in Novemeber,
My friend and I went dancing for fun.
We were dancing to the hits of the day.
Little did I realise the "Night" of my life had begun.

In walked two "Likely Lads",
I liked one from the start.
That was the memonet I fell in love,
He had completely stolen my heart.

They came over to us,
Spent the entire evening having fun.
I later told my friend,
"I'm Going To Marry That One.".

She told me not to be silly,
That we'd only just met.
I had a grin a mile wide,
And told her not to forget.

Forget our conversation,
In time to come.
I couldn't wait to show him off
To my loving mum..

Well we did marry two years later,
I wrote and told my friend.
She had not forgotten our conversation,
As her best wishes she did send.

We married on mum's birthday,
What a grand day indeed..
Had the reception at mum's home,
All had a great feed.

We had thirty-five happy years together,
Three great kids from our love.
Eighteen years ago God Took Him Home
To his home above

.
Gone but never forgotten:

  6. Losing a life-long partner is the hardest part of loving someone. Hope writing your poem brought back those earlier happy moments, poignant, but perhaps comforting.

    1. Thanks Lee, that's how I came to write poetry in the first place after losing hubby just two months after my mum.
It helps to put things into perspective.

  8. This is a timeless story of romance that never gets old. Too bad the story ended too soon. You could have had so much more, but at least you have some great memories.

  13. Sometimes, no matter what anyone says, you just KNOW. I'm glad you had 35 years together, but it never ever feels long enough. I hope writing about him did your heart good.
