IWSG AUGUST 2016:
We all remember our first writing well
here is mine which goes back 25 yrs:
it was published 8 years ago:
REMEMBERING SHEBA:
You were a special dog, we had your sixteen years,
You grew up with the children through their laughter and their tears.
We had you as a puppy, whith big and appealing eyes,
That seemed to say"Take me home I'll never leave your sides".
Every morning by the window you would sit and wait.
To see the postman come along our road and through the gatden gate.
You then run to the letterbox and happily wag your tail,
Then with great delight you would snatch the mail.
Well known at the sweet shop, you loved your chocolate bar.
Everone adored you, they treated you like a star.
On that fateful day you sad eyes said it all,
You couldn't even stand, you just laid there in the hall.
Our journey to the vets, our words were very few.
We knew deep in our hearts that we were losing you.
It was the hardest thing to do but the kindest thing by far,
But we couldn't let you go without one last chocolate bar.
How you did enjoy it, it's a memory we shall keep.
After the final mouthful you peacefully went to sleep.
There's no-one here to greet us as we come home through the door.
There's an empty space in our hearts and will be forever more.
No dog can ever replace you,
You were the very best.
Sleep peacefully our faithful friend.
For you deserve your rest.

ReplyDeleteThank you Diane for your lovely comment.

A beautiful tribute to a beautiful dog Yvonne - thanks for sharing, though I must admit it's made me cry. Having lost two dogs of my own within a year (the second one was Sam last New Year) your poem has made me realise just how much I still miss them both. They really do find their way into our hearts don't they?
ReplyDeleteThanks Tigermose for a very emptional comment, I know how you must have felt, putting it on line today I had tears in my eyes. Aniamls are so trusting to us humans.

What a heart-felt tribute. I've decided to never own another pet because I can't bear the heart break of losing another one.
ReplyDeleteI'm not allowed pets where I reside, but I don't think I could go through all that heartache again.

What a touching poem, Yvonne. It brings tears to my eyes. She was a beautiful dog, looks very much like the sweetie my son had a few years ago. She too has gone to her rest. Treasure the memories. Hugs.
