CHRISTMAS PAST:

What better time to re-live Christmas pasts,
Thinking of the present.
And hope for the future:
CHRISTMAS PAST:
(Dedicated to my three children
with memories of their dad)

As Christmas time approaches,
I think of Christmas past.
The lovely memories that I have,
Will forever with me last.

How when the children were small,
You were like a big kid yourself.
Although we only had a small house,
And indeed no means of wealth.

How you loved to decorate the tree.
And marvel at the sight.
Though nine times out of ten.
Who couldn't fix the lights?

Then the decorations of the house,
Balloons were your big thing.
Alas the dog and cat disagreed with you.
When they burst, off they flew like a bird on tthe wing.

On Christmas Eve you would send
To bed the kids up the stairs a packing.
So you could continue
The rest of present wrapping.

On Christmas morning who awoke first?
Yes, you guessed it in one.
Then slowly the children descended.
The stairs sleepily one by one.

You loved to play with their gifts,
Until it was time for lunch.
Each year it was the same,
Who to wash up? that was the crunch.

On Christmas night three tired children,
Off to bed they go.
I wonder if they think
Of Christmas long ago?

*Now as I spend Christmas alone.
Family all scattered around.
I will sit and think of years ago.
Of Christmas's happy sounds*

    1. You described my husband to a tee Joanne.
He would hate to see what my family has become since his departure.
      Happy Christmas.
