SUNDAY I CAME OUT OF THE CLOSET:
I came out of the closet yesterday.
The weather determined that.
It was pouring with rain from morning til night,
A most regreful fact.
Yes! I am the humble umbrella.
Only needed when to keep folk dry.
There are many different varieties of us,
I noticed as people walked by.
I am brightly coloured.
My owner prefer pretty things.
As I paraded the street getting wet,
I didn't even see a bird on the wing.
Of course there are long black umbrella's
Rolled up on the business gent's arm
With bowler hat on head and carrying a briefcase,
Thinking everyone will fall for his charm.
In the summer it's a different story.
A posher umbrella is evident.
A parosol to keep the sun off people
As in the garden or beach much time is spent.
Well, I'm back home now,
And all dried out awaiting the next downpour.
Or will I be put back in the closet,
My use not needed anymore?
You see my lady was looking,
At new umbrella's in the store.
Will we not weather any new storms together?
Me being lost to oblivion for evermore?

I like colorful umbrellas. I always have the most outrageous ones I can find - with stripes and polka dots. My umbrella always stands out in the crowd!

This is awesome, Yvonne. A poem from the viewpoint of an umbrella is so much fun. I never considered how an umbrella might feel, if umbrellas had emotions. You said it perfectly. Now you can't replace your trusted, faithful umbrella for a new one, can you?
ReplyDeleteM,any thanks Beverly for your comment, thought I'd brighten a dreary day......and it's still raining would you believe.

An umbrella is a companion most useful but one that may not be appreciated fairly and fully!
