ISWG NOVEMBER 2017:

Welcome to the November ISWG.
Thanks to Alex and all helpers
Who make this a fine group.
HAVE A GOOD MONTH:

MY INSECURITIES:
Here in the UK,
Our health service is very good.
Everywhere I've resided,
It's always been as it should.

Except for here in Bournemouth,
Discrimination rears it's ugly head.
Against my age and Epilepsy,
Which is wrong after all is done and said.

Back in January I enlisted at a new surgery,
Went for my medication  in due course.
I was told I didn't have the illness.
A bit like putting the cart before the horse.

I was diagnosed some 32 yrs ago,
Whilst I was still married with young kids.
Epilepsy lived with me and not the other way around,
Many things and places visited over the years I did.

To cut a long story short, my new doctor
Had me delisted and got in touch with "Primary Care,"
Who allocated me to another doctor,
Way out of my area.....which just isn't fair.

The new doctor at first was very good,
My medication to me was given.
Read on my records of my illness,
Said the other doc should be forgiven.

Since August his attitude has changed.
Not very pleasant on the phone.
Should I request a visit if a seizure occurs,
He tells me "To Cope On My Own".

I'm not allowed to change my doctor,
Down to rules and regulations.
They've taken away my rights as a British Citizen,
To me a terrible violation.

Epilepsy is not an illness to ignore,
As I was told on the onset many years ago.
So why this discrimination now,?
Times and places change......it goes to show.

All this has caused undue stress and worry,
Caused by the people who are supposed to care.
If I was ten-twenty years younger,
Things would be different.....believe me it's one

  1. So very sorry that you are having so many problems getting a good doctor to treat your epilepsy and that your current doctor is a distance from you. I agree with you that your epilepsy is a serious condition that you need a doctor for. Wish I could help.

    1. It is a vicious circle Joanne, as you say stress brings on extra seizures. Have had a good day today as I find writing about my problems theraputic.

      Enjoy this new month.

  8. I am so sorry. I get so angry when I hear about things like this. I have trouble find doctors who accept my insurance, which I have because I'm disabled, but so many doctors don't accept it anymore, which doesn't make sense and is messed up. So I know a little of how you feel.

    1. I'm so sorry Chrys that ypu're experiencing problems, it's bad enough to have health issues and to be denied medcial help when needed makes one wonder why these doctors become doctors in the first place. After all they train to help "Sick" people not the healthy.
      Enjoy Novemeber.

  9. How awful you're being denied care and that you can't change your doctor. I'm so sorry you're going through this. You don't need this for your health, as well as for your writing. What stress!

    1. Thank you Diana for your visit also for your supportive comment. There is some inhuman scheme here that should "Primary Care" thinks fir they can do as they please regardless of age and an important illness as Epilepsy.
I am fighting this all the way.

Hope you have a wonderful Novemeber.

  12. What an awful situation. You'd think that the doctors would have a little compassion and try to help their patients get the right care they need. I don't understand. Don't they take an oath or something to treat their patients the best they can? That attitude is unacceptable and needs to be corrected. Hope things work out for you, Yvonne.

    1. I have found with working with the elderly years ago that once a person gets to a certain age one is classed as a liability time and cost wise. Not matter what health issue one may have.
Thanks for your visit and support Beverly.

  13. I remember when you switched doctors. I thought he was taking care of you. That's terrible and stories like yours are why so many people fear socialized medicine here in the USA.
