A poem I wrote years ago:
AN OLD CHRISTMAS CARD:
AN OLD CHRISTMAS CARD:
Today I was looking through some boxes long forgotten.
When I came across an old Christmas card.
I stood there in amazement and emotion,
Believe me the tears to conceal was hard.
It was the first Christmas card I recieved
From my late husband forty-nine years ago.
Although I'd only known him for a short while,
I knew how much I loved him so.
As I looked inside the card,
The familiar handwriting came back to me.
Thinking of the fun and laughter,
Also our children three.
How long I sat there I could only hazzard a guess.
This Christmas card to me so sentimental.
It was a coincidence at the time,
As I sent him one identical.
Forty-nine years on it's still intact.
Just as the day it was given to me.
Oh yes ! the emotion was still there,
Yet it brought comfort and happiness to me.

A sweet memory. And ironic you sent each other the same card. My wife and I gave each other the same gift one year.
ReplyDeleteThanks Alex, strange when you buy the same card or presents for one another.
