WELCOME TO THE 16TH LETTER
OF THE A TO Z CHALLENGE 2015:
AGAIN I WILL CHOOSE A SONG TITLE
AND ATTEMPT TO WRITE MY OWN POEM:
P
is for
PASSING STRANGERS:
RECORDED BY
BILLY ECKSTINE AND
SARAH VAUGHAN:
Have you ever been out walking
Seeing a stranger approaching you?
Do you wonder what is going on in his/her life,
As that person comes into view.
Is that person married?
Perhaps a mum or dad.
Are they wishing for the moon,
For things they never had?
Or equally they could be single,
Out in the world all alone.
Staying at home night after night,
Waiting for the ring of the phone.
The call that never comes,
As that person retires to bed.
Thinking of days gone by
And all the things that have been said.
One never realises who we pass
As we're out day after day.
Passing strangers I call them
As they go along their way.
I suppose we;re all too busy
In our own world we seem to stay.
Take a good look at the next passing stranger,
As he/she comes your way.

Can't think of a song they did, but very possible I have heard one. :)
ReplyDeleteThis is way back David. Thanks for your comment.
DeleteYou know, I sometimes wonder what a person I pass at the mall or store is thinking or where they're going. Guess I'm nosey. :) Lovely poem.
ReplyDeleteMe too Beverly. Thanks for comment and coming by.
DeleteEvery person we pass is a lifetime of experiences and we don't know where they are at right at that moment.
ReplyDeleteI guess you're right Alex. Thanks for comment.
DeleteSweet poem! I should wonder more. It's a small world and you're right, we should share our life experience more than we do.

Hello Clarabella, thanks for coming by and making a comment,
ReplyDeleteI would love to be a follower of yours but don't do Goggle +.
As I don't understand it to be honest.
Yvonne.
Taking the time out to wonder and maybe if give a courtesy hello can make a strangers day!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you there. Thanks for coming by and give a great comment.

Perhaps one can be more observant, yes! Nice lines Yvonne!

I wonder about people's lives all the time. Especially when I travel down a highway on a road trip. I wonder if the people in the cars around me are happy or sad, etc.
ReplyDeleteIt's surprising I suppose how different people have different values in life.
DeleteThanks for the comment.
Yvonne.
I look usually put don't say a word as I keep on a walking, maybe one of these times
ReplyDeleteAs long as you don't forget to squeeze the toothbrush tube, maybe one day as you say.
DeleteThanks for the comment.
Yvonne.
This was a great idea and poem. I do think about "strangers" when I pass by them. I often wonder about their lives, but more importantly I wonder about their soul. Life is so short and then it is gone. I also agree with Donna McDine - I try to voice a greeting to all I pass by out of respect for them and I hope it does make a tiny bit of difference in their day.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you Gregg, It does make someone's day which I can relate to as some days I don't speak to a soul, Life out there can be lonely.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comment.
Yvonne.
I guess I don't always think about the lives of passing strangers. It's an interesting thing to do, though.
ReplyDeleteYes it is interesting, though I did wonder if there are any undesireables we pass.
DeleteThanks Sherry for your visit and comment..
Yvonne,
Beautifully expressed, Yvonne. I often watch people and wonder about their stories. I even make some stories up as I see them cross the street or sip their coffee. All travelers on the same road, but with such different experiences.
ReplyDeleteMany thanks for your interesting comment, as you say we are all travelling on the same road but how many of us turn a corner?
DeletePleased you called in .
Yvonne.
Such a lovely poem. Yes, I often wonder about people I pass... sometimes I get a chance to chat a minute.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comment Dixie, it's good you get to chat at times.
DeleteYvonne.
That's a lovely poem. I quite often wonder about what's going on in the lives of the people I see around me. I love to 'people watch' when I'm somewhere like a train station or airport and imagine stories about the people I see. :-)

Hi Cait, sorry for the delay, my internet has been down all day.
DeleteI will visit you tomorrow.
Thanks for the lovely comment and visit.
Yvonne.
That poem is so me. I have actually sat in restaurants, meetings, airports and watched people.....as I make up stories of their lives. Loved this! I had never heard the song....but I will listen to it today. BTW...since you love Irish singers...try and find a group called Barley Corn. I heard them in Ireland....and the US. They do a song called Immigrant Eyes that will make you cry.
ReplyDeleteThanks for such a lovely comment, I will look out for those Irish singers.
DeleteYvonne.
I think this often. Pretty much every day. What if I knew that person for twenty years. How would my life or theirs be different?
ReplyDeleteThanks Stephen for calling. I know what it is like to be out and not know anyone.
ReplyDeleteYvonne.
It's interesting to people watch, and imagine what their lives are really like. Another wonderful poem, Yvonne!
ReplyDeleteJulie
Thanks for your kind words Julie. One never knows what strangers may be experiencing in life.
DeleteYvonne.
I wonder about other people all the time. They could be good friends with common interests if we got to know them, but so often we don't have time or are afraid of interfering with theirs. Great poetic musings.

I must admit sometimes whilst out I don't speak to a soul or vice versa, But I do wonder what sort of lives they lead.
ReplyDeleteThanks for coming by, always nice to know you've been.
