Once again it's time for the IWSG,
Thanks to Alex and team for their continued
good work on this great group.
This months theme is about secrets.
There is only one I will reveal:
MY CHILDHOOD SECRET:
At school I was not very academic,
Preferring music was my life.
One subject that I really detested
Was poetry, causing me undue strife.
I was just not interested in the works
Of the great poets present and past.
Little did I envisage my attitude would change,
One that would indeed last.
It was after the passing of my husband,
That poetry I found I could write.
I have written four books,
Which are never far from sight.
OK! I may not be a great poet,
But I write of events of my life.
Things of great happiness,
Others of extreme strife.
Well there you have my secret,
There are many I will not tell.
Suffice to say in these uncertain days,
I wish you all safe and well.

we're glad you share your poetry secret with us. Forced poetry sucks the fun out of it. Just doing what makes you happy is not wrong. Glad you found poetry and share with us
ReplyDeleteThank you Joanne, poetry found me for which I am grateful for I can express my feelings good or not so good.

Now you are a poet through and through.
ReplyDeleteThank you Diane, nice of you to say so.

That is so funny that you did not like poetry before as a kid. I didn't mind writing when I was a kid but never thought I would ever really enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteI was brought up with a musical background which I still have but poetry is an added bonus found at a sad time in my life.
DeleteYvonne.
School has a way of making things like that boring. You had to discover it on your own to enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteYou're so very right Alex, though poetry "Found" me at a very sad occasion in my life.

I think you are a good poet, Yvonne! Glad you found that passion to write it "later" in your life!

I didn't enjoy poetry in school. The way it was taught and studied seem to take the beauty and joy out of it. Glad you found it later in life.

I wrote earlier but it wouldn't go through.. Try again. I am so glad that you discovered writing poetry is for you, Yvonne. You do a beautiful job. I always look forward to your new poem. I surely would miss them. Your story shows how we never know what life has in store for us. Keep on writing poetry.

I'm in awe of your ability to write poetry, Yvonne! It's always been a struggle for me. I was an academic in kindergarten ~ LOL It was a shock when I landed there to discover that most kids weren't. I always enjoy reading your inspiring and poetic posts, and I'm a little envious of your ability ~ not a mean envy, more of an I wish I could do that envy. Take care, my friend!
ReplyDeleteThank you Louise for your lovely comment. Much appreciated.
DeleteDo be safe and take care.
