WELCOME TO DAY FIVE OF THE
A TO Z CHALLENGE:
I CONTINUE WITH MY THEME OF
CHOOSING A SONG TITLE
AND WRITE MY OWN POEM
E is for EBONY EYES
RECORDED BY
THE EVERLY BROTHERS:
(dedicated to my granddaughter Lara)
You were a beautiful baby,
Perfect in every way.
The first time that I held you,
I remember until this day.
You had jet black hair on your head,
With ebony eyes to match.
The first time that I saw you,
My breath it did catch.
You were born ten weeks premature,
Fragile I may say.
It appeared you were in a hurry to make your entrance,
You see it was also MY birthday.
As you grew so did your beauty,
Your ebony eyes lit up your face.
Your smile that of an angel,
All anger and tears you erased.
One day you'll have the lads queueing
To take you out on a date.
But with the watchful eye of your dad,
To ensure you don't arrive home late.

Here in the States, dad would have a shotgun and no one would mess with her.
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to buy a shotgun here Alex.
DeleteThanks for the visit..
When I taught school, kids would call each other ugly. I remember from my school days we would think some looked better than others. But you know as a teacher, there was no such thing as an ugly child. Children are just beautiful.
ReplyDeleteLovely poem about your granddaughter
Thank you Ann for your lovely comment. I do appreciate you coming by.

Yvonne.
Nothing as precious as a tiny one come before he should. Fragile, yet resilient.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your lovely words. I appreciated them very much.
DeleteWhat a nice tribute to your grandbaby. I don't think I've heard that song in many years.

Thanks Lee for your lovely comment, Yes, it was an old song from way back.

Do not recall this song. I wonder who the baby refers to. Very Sweet of your son and babe :)
ReplyDeleteThis was an Everyly Brothers song from way back, Ebony Eyes in the song referred to their girlfriend, Actually it was a very sad song but as soon as I saw my granddaughter I called her Ebony Eyes. Thanks for the comment.
